STYLE GURU BIO: Cheyenne Pettiford

My name is Cheyenne and I am a junior at Pennsylvania State University, where I am studying psychology with an emphasis on business and a minor in sociology. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I could not be more thrilled to have such a fabulous opportunity. With the immense size of Penn State, I can’t wait to get out there and unveil the personal style of so many of my fellow Nittany Lions!

For as long as I can remember, expressing myself through fashion has been an essential part of my life. By the time I reached elementary school, I would spend my time (after finishing my homework, of course) laying out my outfit for school each day. I loved to style myself so much that I would often help my friends pick out their clothes for school as well. By the time I reached middle school, I developed a strong affinity for finding amazing styles on a budget, which is still a passion of mine today. I also loved flipping through the fashion spreads in Seventeen, and even though I am no longer a teen, I can’t resist cracking open a fresh new Teen Vogue. One of my new guilty pleasures is following both up-and-coming and popular style bloggers on Instagram, as well as perusing street style galleries for inspiration.

As for my personal style, I like to mix it up. I describe it as “girly grunge.” I love wearing color (and a LOT of it), while also embracing loose fits and bold pieces. Recently, I can’t seem to live without oversized sweaters, statement outerwear and fun textures. My clothing often reflects my mood, so it is really a pure representation of who I am on a daily basis. I am a strong proponent for genuinely being yourself without restraint, and I feel style is an important outlet for many to express who they are without words. For this reason, I like to try out new trends, while putting my own edgy spin on them to really make them my own. I feel my style evolves with me every day.

Being in touch with myself is very important to me, and fashion is an outlet for me to do just that. Now, with CollegeFashionista, I can share my personal style, as well as celebrate the personal style of others. I am so thankful for this wonderful opportunity and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. Check back with me every Thursday to join me on my journey!
