STYLE GURU BIO: Carrie Carrollo

Hello! My name is Carrie and I’m thrilled to be joining the team of Style Gurus here at College Fashionista! I’m currently a senior at the University of Illinois, set to finish my final classes (almost) a full year early at the end of the summer. Though it might be a little late to be getting in the game here as a Style Guru, better late than never right?

I was raised in the forever perfect city of Chicago and grew up overlooking its premier fashion neighborhood from 450 feet above ground. I like to think that that my long-time interest in all things fashion was born as a direct result of these roots. Surrounded by fashionable people and influenced by the dynamic demands of city life, my personal style has flourished and my wardrobe only continues to grow. Beyond fashion, I am thankful to divide my time between several other passions. The makeup and beauty world is a second home to me, and I feel most liberated through writing. To top it off, I am an equestrian of 12 years and a full time pug mom too.

If asked to classify my style, I would likely use the word eclectic. In the age of over-hyped trends and sameness, I both appreciate and recognize what is “on-trend,” but never directly strive to be so. My style is just a combination of anything and everything that I like, with nothing that I don’t. What I wear can’t be confined to one category…and that’s exactly how I want it.

Lately, I’ve been gravitating towards clothes with clean lines and fresh hues, emphasized by a few pops of color or accessories. My outfit above is a primary example of this, as the romper dress I’m wearing is both structured and light. As if my hair didn’t provide enough of a “pop,” I chose to accessorize with gold jewelry, seasonally appropriate platform sandals and my current favorite sunglasses. I finished off my look with a signature bold lip, this time wearing Mary Jo K by Kylie Cosmetics.

Though I am deeply in love with my city and credit my entire identity to it, I do have room in my heart for another. New York has been on my mind since I first visited in 2005, and the time following has been spent finding a way to make my dream of living there a reality. Now 11 years later, I plan to make the move to the big city by the start of next year to pursue a career in the fashion/beauty media industry.
