With a new semester comes the promise of a fresh start. In no time at all, we will immerse ourselves in our studies, forge new friendships, and gain experiences that will shape the way we see the world. As cliché as it sounds, we can be whoever we want to be.
In many ways, fashion has challenged me to become the woman I am. While my more reserved side urges me to blend in with the crowd, fashion has empowered me to be unapologetically bold in the way I compose my image. Taking time to style my outfit every morning inspires me to tackle the day with confidence and makes even the most monotonous routines more exciting. This art of juxtaposing complementary pieces to create an intriguing visual story is seldom black and white (though I love all things neutral), and I have found that making mistakes and learning what works for each individual is half of the fun!
For all of these reasons, I aspire to work in the business side the fashion industry and pursue my dream of becoming a buyer for an innovative fashion-focused brand.
My name is Brooke Komas, and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying marketing. This will be my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am so excited to share my outlook on campus fashion and connect with other Style Gurus around the country!
For this look, I paired a ruffled peasant blouse and a leather moto jacket with distressed mom jeans and metallic booties. Although the color palette remains neutral, daring details such as gold booties and dramatic bell sleeves elevate this look from basic to bold. These staple pieces, along with accessories like tasseled statement earrings and a classic leather bag, give the look a polished rocker vibe. Though I would currently describe my style as vintage-inspired with a modern edge, my inspiration and style preferences are constantly evolving anywhere from girly to grunge.
