STYLE GURU BIO: Brittany Collins

What’s up Fashionistas/os?! Welcome to my page! Let me introduce myself. My name is Brittany Collins, I am an incoming senior at High Point University studying strategic communications and event management. I believe in coffee, sky high heels, late nights, leather jackets, laughing so hard your stomach hurts, fresh manicures, singing (badly), dancing and wearing the color black. I believe that chocolate is the cure to all problems and I believe that red lipstick can make any person feel beautiful, even on their worst days.

I believe my mother is the most gorgeous thing I have ever known.

When I was little, my two younger sisters and I used to watch her in awe. We would love playing dress up in her closet, trying on high heels that were far too big for our tiny feet, and pretending to be a “grown up girls.” I was mesmerized with each swish of a brush across my mother’s face as she applied her makeup. I remember getting older rummaging through my room to pick out my mother’s clothes before she went out on the town and laying them out on her bed. The ensemble would include her shoes, jewelry and accessories in a neat little pile. The outfit was perfect. I was completely satisfied. Then, the following would ensue: “Brittany, I don’t like that. That won’t look good!” I would roll my eyes, “Mom, just trust me!”

Nothing has changed. This debacle is a constant one that vibrates throughout my household: a home full of four fashion-obsessed women, all with very big wardrobes and very different styles. The whole concept of style has always fascinated me. I love how I can look at an item of clothing, a collection of jewelry or a pair of shoes and think, “No no, I could never pull that off.” “No, I don’t like that.” “NO, who would ever wear that?!” and someone else could think, “This is the most perfect thing I have ever laid eyes on.” I love that. It’s incredible that one singular item can be seen so differently through two pairs of eyes.

The dictionary defines the world style as “a manner of doing something,” and “a distinctive appearance.” Um. What? I do not accept this. I have decided that during summer, my goal is to redefine and discover what style really means, and I want you to join me. I’m so thrilled for the opportunity to be able to explore the world of style and talk about it with the fellow fashionably-curious. I invite you to accompany me on my journey as I share my findings of spectacular individuals and the way they demonstrate their own style. Be sure to follow my page, as well as on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with my style voyage! Together we can shine a light on the various versions of style out in the world and give them a chance to be celebrated. Stay inspired, my loves!
