Hey Fashionistas! My name is Ashanti Powell and this is my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I attend The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. I am a double major in digital retailing and merchandising. I am a senior set and ready to graduate May 2018. I am from Dallas, Texas and I grew up around family that was very much involved in fashion, design and the arts. I would describe myself as a true-to-heart creative. I am an artist and stylist who likes to write poetry and sing.
At an early age, I grew to love the reasons why people choose what they wear on a day-to-day basis. Fashion and trend forecasting have been very important to my college and personal career. I am a fan of sociology and the history of human interaction and self expressions. I believe that fashion binds and pulls our perceptions of how we see ourselves and also how we interact with others together. I find that fashion plays a huge role in artistry and self exuberance.
I often find myself going to art museums, concerts and searching thrift hauls on YouTube. I binge watch Gossip Girl and Revenge on Netflix when I’m not in class or hanging out with my girls. If I could describe my style it would be a mixture of urban, classic and reinvented thrift finds with a pinch of Neo-Soul enthusiasm. I am always met with a pair of adidas. I love finding cool and one-of-a-kind pieces that make the outfit worth observing. I experiment with textures, everything faux fur, as well as printed bottoms and tops when putting a look together.
My top pick niche in the fashion Industry would have to be the Plus Size market. I associate myself with the Plus size world. I love that companies and designers are taking on the market in their own unique way. They are considering that women with voluptuous curves exist and they want to look trendy and fabulous too!
