STYLE GURU BIO: Arianna Alvarez

Greetings, everyone! My name is Arianna and I am a rising junior at Hunter College. I am majoring in Media Studies with a concentration in Television Production, and on my way to minor in Spanish. Although television is my passion, I am also obsessed with fashion, and I am hoping to find a perfect balance between the two.

I am proud to say that I am a “born-and-raised” New Yorker; I was born in Brooklyn and lived there until I was four. Once my brother was born we moved to Staten Island, and I have lived here ever since. Living in Staten Island has its ups and downs; it takes me an hour and a half to get to school every morning, but I am also glad that I was raised in a more “laid back” borough, where I made so many long lasting friendships, such as my best friend, whom I met when I was only four years old!

Ever since I was a little girl, I was obsessed with fashion and trying to create my own personal style. My nightly routine as a kid was to watch my favorite show, That’s So Raven, with a paper and pen, and write down all of the cool clothes I saw the characters wearing. Then I would rummage through my closet, so I could try and recreate them at school the next day. I also enjoyed “recycling” my clothes into something different, like using necklace charms and putting them on shepherds hook earring posts so I can wear them as earrings. I loved trying to find alternate ways of wearing clothing items, so that my outfits stood out from the crowd.

Living in such a vibrant city like New York has given me so many opportunities. Just walking from the train station to my school’s entrance, I get so much inspiration. One of my favorite things to do is to sit in Washington Square Park (my favorite park!) and people watch, while also taking notes on their outfits. I am very excited to continue taking notes on people’s outfits this summer, but also post about these outfits on CollegeFashionista!
