STYLE GURU BIO: Anneke Charnley

Hi, fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos!

This will be my second semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista as well as my first semester in the editorial society for CollegeFashionista. I am super excited to share some of my favorite looks from the Spring 2017 semester.

First, I would like to start off with introducing myself by tackling the debate that is my lovely name.

Your name is your identity and like many would assume, my identity is mispronounced most of the time. My name is Anneke, pronounced like Annika or Onika, and although it is difficult and was the center of a debate in my eighth grade math class, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I was named after one of my favorite fashion inspirations, my grandmother. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away from ovarian cancer before I could meet her, but her spirit lives on through the photographs hanging from the walls in my house. My grandmother used to model in her free time and would always have this glint in her eye to show that she genuinely loved what she was doing. Now, I am attempting to carry on her love of fashion with modern trends.

Currently, I am a junior at the University of Pittsburgh studying biology on the pre-medicine track. Yes, I am a lab geek who rocks safety glasses and a lab coat at least twice a week, but that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice fashion, as long as it includes long pants and closed toed shoes.

My fashion sense is geared around one main thing: comfort. No, you do not have to “bum it” by wearing sweats, a white T-shirt, and styling your hair in a messy bun, but you should feel confident and comfortable in your outfit all day. With this in mind, my main staple is jeggings, typically from American Eagle. Jeggings always make my day better by keeping me comfortable but also looking nice during that early 8 a.m. class.

The outfit that I am wearing is definitely one of my new staples. I am wearing a pair of embossed ponte knit leggings from my favorite designer Calvin Klein and a long sleeved top from American Eagle. I normally go for a simple look, so the playfulness of the string cross-front top with the shine of the pants makes all the difference. In addition to the initial outfit, I paired the outfit with my Pandora bracelet, with some newly added winter themed charms. Finally, my outfit was finished with some Adidas sneakers, in my favorite color, navy blue. Navy blue offers an outfit a bit of color while still remaining neutral, which I love because I always spill everything. I love wearing dark colors not only because of the time of year but because of my black furry friends back home. I always highly recommend to purchase clothes that will not get overly dirty throughout the day based on your environment.
