STYLE GURU BIO: Amy Aguirre

Hello, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! It is officially summer. I hope everyone survived finals week. My name is Amy Aguirre. I am 21 years old and I am a senior at Arizona State University. I am majoring in Journalism with an emphasis on Visual Communication.

I love any opportunity to be creative, and developing a personal style is a way one can be creative and express his or her personality, which is something I appreciate about fashion. A few of my style icons are Lily Collins, Kiernan Shipka and Audrey Hepburn. I get a great deal of my fashion inspiration from films and television shows. My two favorite shows to watch for creative influence are Mad Men and Pushing Daisies.

I am currently learning French, which has been quite a difficult task. In order to motivate myself I have been watching French films. These films have become very important for me when it comes to making style choices. I have especially been inspired by François Truffaut’s films. These films have encouraged me to take some fashion risks. I was never quite comfortable wearing stripes, but I decided to face my fears. I purchased this shirt at Forever 21.

After watching Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, I began to experiment with the color combination of orange and purple. I decided to carry a purple purse to go with the orange stripes on my shirt. I think it is a great color combo for the summer months. I am a big fan of flats and especially flats that have ankle straps. I purchased these sandals a few years ago, but I found similar sandals at ModCloth. I also added a little bracelet to my outfit. The bangle is from 31 Bits, an organization that helps women in Uganda escape poverty and provide for their families.

My ideal outfit includes layers and a jacket, but living in the desert has prevented me from fully embracing my dream wardrobe. This summer with CollegeFashionista, I hope to answer one main question: How can you be stylish in the desert when the temperature is high and the sun is blazing? By the end of the summer I hope to have a really informative and helpful answer to this question.

I am so excited to be a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista this summer. Thank you so much for reading. Now it is time for me to go find some stylish Arizona State Sun Devils around campus. Have a great summer everyone.
