STYLE GURU BIO: Alyssa Weiss

Hey fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Alyssa and Iโ€™m beyond excited to start my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! Iโ€™m currently a first-year journalism student minoring in business at the University of Florida. My friends will tell you that Iโ€™m talkative, constantly laughing and always prepared to give fashion advice at any given moment. Theyโ€™ll also tell you that Iโ€™ll ditch you the second I see a dog I want to pet, but can you really blame me?

Growing up as a fashion-obsessed little girl in South Florida wasnโ€™t always easy. Our seasons arenโ€™t the usual summer, autumn, spring and winter; theyโ€™re more along the lines of extremely hot, really hot, warm and occasionally chilly. So when our โ€œcold frontsโ€ are actually just a high of 70 degrees, itโ€™s hard to have a style thatโ€™s made up of more than just tank tops and denim shorts. When I discovered the world of fashion through magazines and started faithfully watching fashion week through the oh-so-glamorous view of my computer screen, I learned that my style can still be original and something Iโ€™m proud of.

My hobbies include pausing award shows on a celebrityโ€™s dress and yelling out the designer, standing outside of Burberry and complaining because I canโ€™t afford a trench coat and not-so-subtly dropping hints to my parents that I want to go visit, and never leave, New York City. Sometimes I do my schoolwork and study in the library, too!

My style can be described as a mix between edgy and preppy, as hard as that is to imagine. I like to mix black tights and boots with flowy skirts or dresses. I have an obsession with anything leather โ€“ although leather jackets definitely hold a special place in my heart. Iโ€™ve rekindled my love for suede as the temperatures in Gainesville have started to drop, and itโ€™s not leaving my closet any time soon. One day Iโ€™ll be walking the streets of New York in Christian Louboutin heels and a custom-designed dress, but until then, youโ€™ll find me running to class, wearing Urban Outfitters or some sort of Gators apparel.
