STYLE GURU BIO: Ally Meyerowitz

Hey, Fashionistas/os! My name is Ally Meyerowitz and I am a junior at San Diego State University. I am originally from New Jersey, so I am very lucky to call San Diego my second home 10 months out of the year. I am majoring in journalism with a minor in Italian. (I am not quite sure why I picked this minor because after almost eight years, I still can’t speak it fluently.) When I’m not scrolling endlessly through my Instagram and Facebook feeds, you can usually find me watching movies, hanging out with friends or eating chocolate. After college, I hope to become an editor at a major fashion or pop-culture magazine in New York City.

Living on both coasts, I see so many fashion trends come and go. Sometimes I don’t even have words to describe some of the trends I see, but I know a good outfit when I see one. As for my style, I don’t really have a word to describe it because I wear practically everything. I usually cater my style to what I see is currently trending on my campus, what’s trending in the industry and what I see my peers wearing. If I like what I see, I’ll take certain pieces and put them together to fit my own unique style.

My fashion is, however, catered to California most of the time. My favorite go-to outfit would probably have to be skinny jeans, a loose flowy top, gold layered necklaces and a pair of booties.

Since I live on both coasts, my wardrobe changes throughout the year depending on where I happen to be at a given time. My pictured outfit is my go-to winter outfit. The honeycomb-esque cream sweater I’m wearing is one of my favorites because it’s comfortable, cozy and fashionable for winter. I paired it with a quilted vest with gold accents to complete my look on top. On the bottom, I’m wearing PINK foldover black leggings (whoever said leggings couldn’t be worn as pants were seriously mistaken) paired with knee-high cream socks and chestnut riding boots that have gold accents on them. For accessories, I’m wearing a gold Helen Ficalora minimalist necklace and some Alex and Ani gold charm bracelets. (If you haven’t noticed, gold is my favorite color for any accessory.)

My interest in fashion has sort of been a newfound love. I’ve always loved going shopping (as any girl does), but I’ve never been quite into fashion as much as I am now. As crazy as this sounds, I think my fashion obsession started when I first watched The Devil Wears Prada. That’s when it hit me: I want to be a fashion journalist. Now I own way too many pairs of shoes (more clothes than I own), and my fashion obsession is only growing by the day.

I’m excited for what the semester has to offer me fashion and trend wise. I can’t wait to see what fashion trends inspire me enough to make it into something of my own.
