STYLE GURU BIO: Allie Purcell

Hey Fashionista/os, my name is Allie Purcell and I am a junior at SUNY Oneonta. I’m a Fashion and Textiles major with a concentration in Merchandising. This past year was my first at Oneonta and it has been an amazing experience. I have met some awesome people and acquired a wide array of knowledge when it comes to fashion.

Ever since I was a little kid, it has been evident that I would be going into an artistic field. Everything I did was based on creating something from nothing, whether it was drawing, blocks, or playing dress up. As I grew up, my interests focused in on interior design and fashion both of which I have been lucky enough to study in college. Once in school, I knew that I preferred to be on the marketing side of the industry rather than design. Being involved in some of the challenging classes and events like fashion shows that my school has to offer has been nothing but encouraging.

Growing up on Long Island, New York has opened up some great opportunities to gain insight into the unique styles people possess. Being just an hour away from New York City has been a huge source of inspiration for me, especially since I spend a great deal of time there due to my dad and brother living in Manhattan. There is no greater place to go to absorb, learn and be inspired by what the fashion world has to offer. I have been lucky enough to not just meet some incredible people in the design world, but live next to one of the greatest cities in the world.

I would not say that I have a specific style when it comes to how I dress. It is always changing season to season and even day by day. In this outfit, I went for a more fun and bohemian summer look. Kimonos are becoming a quick favorite of mine, as they can transform an outfit. Also, you can’t go wrong with some classic high-waisted shorts and a crop top. I added a statement necklace to give the outfit some edge.

I am so excited to be with CollegeFashionista this semester and hope you all enjoy my journey as I say goodbye to the Oneonta cold and hello to the warm beach days of summer!
