STYLE GURU BIO: Alison Guilfoile

My name is Alison Guilfoile and I am from Clearwater, Florida. I am ecstatic to be writing my first post for CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru. I’m currently a sophomore at Florida State University majoring in retail merchandising and product development with aspirations to work in the fashion industry.

But enough of the boring stuff. I have always adored any and everything having to do with fashion. From playing dressing up with my innocent and clueless younger brother to helping my friends find something to wear (usually from my own closet), I became obsessed. Despite my innate love for fashion, I was forced to wear a private school uniform every day for ten years. There were regulations down to the height of my socks, but once I got to high school I lost the classic school girl skirt and was able to style myself. The freedom to express myself through the way I dressed truly built my confidence. I think one of the truest forms of self expression is the way you style yourself.

I would describe my personal style as a melting pot made up of vintage, boho, and athleisure (aka active wear that’s not actually worn for sweaty work outs). My style changes on a daily basis, depending on my mood and what I’ll be getting into that day.

The outfit I am wearing today consists of a pair of booties, a double buckle belt, oversized gold hoops from Urban Outfitters, and a black H&M men’s long T-shirt, which I distressed myself. I recently became obsessed with the distressed look. I love that not a single distressed piece is exactly the same and by distressing the pieces myself I can control how many holes and tears to make.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a Style Guru and am looking forward to sharing my personal style with all of you.
