STYLE GURU BIO: Alicia Kahl

Hey everyone! I am back for another semester as a Style Guru and I couldn’t be more excited! Last semester was my very first semester with CollegeFashionista and I knew I had to come back for more. It was one of the greatest learning experiences I have had and it really helped to improve my professional skills in communication, photography, and writing. Best of all, I had so much fun while doing it. CollegeFashionista is such an empowering and positive community to be a part of!

I am in my second semester of my junior year at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Being over halfway done with college is crazy to digest. The real world is coming fast! I am majoring in public relations and minoring in music industry. If all goes as planned, I could also major in advertising. I have a passion for fashion, music, photography, and digital communications and am excited to see what kind of career I will pursue in the near future!

When I’m not buried in the books, I like to take pictures for my campus’ newspaper: The Advance-Titan. My favorite kind of photography that I do for the newspaper is sports photography. Capturing an action-filled shot is invigorating and allows me to do two activities that I love at the same time: photography and watching sports.

Anyways, on to the outfit! Many times, I go for a simple, sophisticated look. I cannot stray away from a good pair of black skinny jeans. They are just so universal and flattering! My top is a thin, dusty pink sweater that offers the perfect amount of warmth for the wintery months here in Wisconsin. The black scarf has a gray strip that also sports a chevron pattern. Watches have kind of been my favorite accessory and this mauvey-pink one is the perfect match.

Can we talk about the shoes?! If you should know one thing about me, it’s that I am obsessed with shoes. I think I’ve purchased a good ten pairs of shoes in the past 45 days (No shame!). These pointed-toe, lace-up flats are both comfy and trendy. The style of the shoe isn’t something everyone likes, but I have been more apt to picking pieces that are outside of my comfort zone.

In 2017, I really want to express my true style and not be so vulnerable to conform to what my surroundings deem as “cute” or “acceptable.” I come from an area that doesn’t really have an intricate clothing style so I am really excited to let my wardrobe speak for me. One thing I have learned is that you don’t have to dress a certain way just because everyone else does or doesn’t. If you like an outfit and you think you look bomb in it, then you better wear that outfit and rock it with confidence! As long as you are happy and confident in what you are wearing, that is all that matters.

I’ll see you soon, Fashionista/os!
