STYLE GURU BIO: Alexis Atkins

Hi! My name is Alexis Atkins. I am a proud bee at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I am majoring in Fashion Marketing and Management and I will be starting my junior year in the fall. I was born and raised in the historical city of Manassas, Virginia but after high school I packed my bags and drove 9 hours with my parents and dorm essentials to Savannah, Georgia.

I choose SCAD for three main reasons. The first was that the campus is beautiful with an abundance of park squares and delicious food, I was hooked. Secondly, the opportunities offered by my school are priceless; from talks with Alexander Wang to Vivienne Westwood it has been amazing learning about fashion surrounded by industry legends. Last but not least, SCAD scared me. Not the school itself (although project critiques are pretty scary) but being 600 miles away from my family was. However, being away from home has taught me so many lessons and luckily my family doesn’t mind me calling them all the time. The longer I attend school in Savannah, the more I realize how many facets of fashion there are for me to pursue. It’s like being at a candy store and right now I am finding it hard to choose. Everything seems exciting, like fashion films, public relations or maybe I’ll focus on marketing. I am honestly hoping a few internships will help me find the best fit.

As for style, I would consider myself a bold classicist. I love the classic silhouettes, like the clean lines of skinny jeans and button-downs but then I mix it up with a bright watercolor print kimono or a gray-hued marble print button-down shirt. I really enjoy playing with prints and colors to pump up my basic T-shirts and blazers. This summer, I will be wearing tons of solid asymmetrical hemmed dresses, black wide strap sandals and printed jumpsuits. The store that holds my heart is H&M. About 95% of the time I am dressed head to toe in their clothing. I am obsessed. When I am not wearing H&M, I love Urban Outfitters, ASOS, Zara and Forever 21.

Gearing up for this summer humidity and I can’t wait to see what trends I’ll capture on camera for CollegeFashionista!
