Hello CollegeFashionista, Style Gurus and viewers! My name is Caroline and I am beginning my first semester with CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru and I could not be more excited! I am so happy for this opportunity to blend my admiration of both fashion and photography. While my writing may not be ready to be published in the New York Times Style Section quite yet, I am looking forward to challenging myself and gaining insight from my fellow Style Gurus.

I grew up in Martinsville, a small town in Southwest Virginia. While Martinsville did not present me with much style inspiration, I put upon myself certain goals in order to someday have my own stance within the fashion industry. The first small step within the ambiguous yet fervent dream conjured up in my mind was Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Fashion Merchandising program. I was ecstatic upon moving to Richmond to begin my degree in fashion. This upcoming fall I will begin my senior year in the program and look forward to graduating in the spring.

While at VCU I have been able to soak up all things fashion. The street style spotted on campus and throughout downtown Richmond exudes self-expression and diversity. Also, within the past year I was fortunate enough to become a new opening team member and sales associate at one of my all time favorite stores, Madewell. My closet is now even more stocked with amazing denim and classic basics that I build every outfit off of. Most of my everyday outfits involve denim as I am obsessed with the cool and effortless aesthetic that denim gives to a look. I’ll top any look with additional layering techniques including basic T-shirts, button-ups and vintage coats—aka, fall is my favorite season for fashion because layering is everything. I love adding little details to a look whether it be a pair of patterned socks peeking out under a cuffed pair of jeans or a sleek collar over a crewneck sweater.

While staying true to my individual style, I look forward to gaining visual inspiration on summer trends with my weekly CollegeFashionista articles. Overall, I am excited to share my stylish point of view while capturing the looks of those Fashionistas/os on the VCU campus!
