STYLE ADVICE: Sporty Chic

My campus isn’t a small one. Some days I have classes on the opposite corner of campus that, not kidding, are a good mile away. For many students, walking a long distance to class is nothing new. If you’re really unlucky, you might have two classes on the opposite side of campus which means a total of walking four miles now. Unfortunately, last semester that was me and I made the big mistake of wearing my uncomfortable flats the whole four miles there and back. My advice instead would be to invest in a great pair of walking or running shoes to get the job done.

Contrary to what you may think, throwing on a pair of sneakers doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice a cute look and opt for an overall sporty look instead. With athleisure on the rise, it’s easier than ever to pair a bold sneaker with cute and fun layers to create a more sporty chic style. The Fashionista I spotted executes this perfectly. Her deep blue Nike sneakers tie in perfectly with the blue on her big blanket scarf. Her long knee length cardigan and leggings help to overall relax the outfit a bit, and most importantly, she’s warm and comfortable while still rockin’ an attention-grabbing look on her hike to class.

My advice would be to get creative and match things in your closest that might “break the rules” or might seem at first unconventional. To me, a knit blanket scarf and cardigan didn’t seem like it would fit very well with a pair of Nike shoes until I saw it on this Fashionista. Athleisure is a little tricky but totally doable. If anything, maybe stick to a complete sporty look at first and ease your way into mixing and matching sporty and chic items. Whatever you do though, don’t risk walking to your class 25 minutes away in a pair of uncomfortable shoes. Even though they might be the cutest pair you own, you’ll regret it later when you feel aches all over!
