STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Walking In A Winter Timberland

Sold out. My sister must have heard those two words at least 20 times as she searched for her absolute must-have item for the new year: a pair of Timberlands. The shoes aren’t anything new and have been popular with boys for quite some time, but the trend is now quickly spreading among the female population as well. Despite the fact that my grandma told my sister that Timberlands look like construction boots, she tirelessly searched what seemed like every shoe store in Cincinnati for them. Even I wasn’t too sure of the look at first, but once I saw how hard of a time she was having finding them, I could tell that they were going to be the next big thing. Being back on campus has definitely confirmed my thoughts. It seems like everyone got a pair of the rugged boots this holiday season, and they are wearing them everywhere from class to parties.

The Fashionista pictured quintessentially shows how to pull off the trend. I love how she adds to the grungy theme with an all-black ensemble and leather leggings. To balance that out, she adds feminine touches through her jewelry. Her Alex and Ani bangles, Michael Kors watch and gold star necklace subtly show the girly side of her personal style. Lastly, her red knit infinity scarf and boot socks perfectly complete her look by adding dimension, texture and a pop of color.

Looking to score a pair of the coveted boots yourself? The wheat nubuck color seems to be the most popular. If you’re not so into the traditional style, Timberland offers a vast variety of other styles as well. My personal favorite are the ones lined with faux fur, but I am also obsessed with these black ankle boots. If you’re having a hard time finding your size or want to save some money, it may be wise to try kids’ sizes. This Fashionista usually wears a size seven in adult shoes, but was able to score a better deal by buying her boots in a kids’ size five. They also don’t look as clunky against her petite frame.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. I was originally nervous to wear my Timberlands, because I wasn’t sure if they fit my personality or style. Once I wore them, though, I realized that I dictate my style and that I don’t need to conform to one certain look. I’m so glad I decided to wear them because they are cute and comfy, and I’ve gotten nothing but compliments so far.”
