STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Vintage from Vietnam

June 20th, 2016 at 2:00am

No matter the year or the season, military inspired clothing is and will always be in. In fact, according to Haider Ackermann’s 2016 fall line, military jackets will be bigger than ever when we return to school. Walking around campus this past school year, it was almost impossible not to spot someone wearing a military jacket. These jackets have truly become a staple in almost everyone’s wardrobe. They are so popular because of their versatility; they practically go with everything! They are a great and simple way to add interest and edge to any outfit.

This beautiful Fashionista chose to wear her military jacket over a plain black tank top with a pair of dark denim jeans and black high-top converse. Her jacket, however, is not just any ordinary military jacket—it is her uncle’s actual army jacket from the Vietnam War! Above her left breast pocket is a patch that says “US Army” and her uncle’s name is written on the opposing side. She clearly wears it in style and, of course, in honor of him.

To accessorize, she put on a gold choker and studs. She also chose to wear a pair of Ralph Lauren cat-eye sunglasses, which are very on trend this summer. The gold rim on the top of her glasses ties in very nicely with her gold choker and studs.

Since not everyone happens to have an authentic military jacket from Vietnam, many retailers carry similar pieces. Topshop carries an army green jacket that looks very similar to this Fashionista’s vintage one. It has both the oversized pockets and the button closures.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love wearing pieces that are fashionable, yet have meaning to them. This jacket allows me to honor my uncle in style!”
