STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Turtleneck That Top!

There is no denying turtlenecks have made their comeback. Especially here in Syracuse where keeping warm is key. Whether it’s a knit turtleneck or a thin cotton one, turtlenecks are here to stay! Turtlenecks are becoming a new staple in the fashion world. Think for example of Steve Jobs. The first thing you should think of is him in a black turtleneck. Then again, think of Audrey Hepburn in her elegant turtlenecks in movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Whoever comes to mind, just know that turtlenecks are back and not going anywhere anytime soon.

Turtlenecks stand out for many reasons. The first is that you basically get a tube scarf and a sweater all packaged into one cozy shirt. The second is they obviously keep you warm but with the added benefit of not looking like a “lumpy marshmallow snowman” in the winter.

Looking at this Fashionista, it is clear that adding a turtleneck to any outfit gives the extra pop we all crave and love. I really love how the turtleneck also emphasizes the olive green wax pants. It gives the outfit a contrast from top to bottom. The crossed pattern on the turtleneck is subtle but draws any onlooker’s attention. I also love how this Fashionista chose to match a light-colored turtleneck with darker pieces like the jacket and shoes. Since it is a fact that people are naturally drawn to the lightest part of anything, outfits included, I was instantly drawn to her turtleneck.

Additionally, when asking this Fashionista about her outfit she mentioned how she added her father’s leather jacket on top of the turtleneck to create proportion and layers. Her outfit has many different aspects to it but is ultimately a complete look with the help of the turtleneck.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I really like proportions. This is my dad’s jacket, so I guess ignore gender roles and wear what you really want. I love the turtleneck specifically because it is extra cozy and perfect for the winter. Plus keeping me warm is an added bonus!”
