STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Trendy at the Drop of a Hat

Through the decades, hats have been changing and evolving with the times. Hats have always been in fashion no matter what the occasion. Whether bonnets or baseball hats, hats have reflected the character of the time period. The traditions of hats have played a pivotal role in many famous events and holidays. Urban legend has it that women in that past wore unique hats to the Kentucky Derby to bring good luck to their chosen horse competitors. Such old traditions have carried on into present day. Hats have grown from being a traditional aspect of attire to a fun and stylish trend.

Hats for some are a way to hide a bad hair day and for others they are a way to jazz up a causal outfit. This year, hats have been the center of attention and all the rave on campuses everywhere. We have seen all types of hats come up in style over the seasons. Wide brim hats have taken the fashion industry by storm because they provide a convenient  look all year round. Wide brim hats can be worn in the summer paired with a swimsuit and cover up or can pull together a sweater and fur vest look in the winter.

The look above features one way to pull off the perfect wide brim hat. This Fashionista combined hipster and grunge to form a perfect school day look. She continued black throughout her look, which pulled out the white in her sweater. The detail in the white sweater adds pattern and character to an originally simple look. The continuation of leather in her black ankle boots and belt creates an on going texture and accentuates this Fashionista’s legs. But the most eye catching part of this look is the wide brim hat. The hat ties every part of this look together and highlights the black in her shoes, shorts, belt and the pattern in her sweater. Without the hat as an accessory, this outfit would have looked incomplete. The wide brim hat frames the Fashionista’s face and completes are overall look.
