STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: To Contrast Or Not To Contrast

It is the trend that is popping up everywhere, the mixture of patterns and textures to create your own personal style. I personally love this trend happening everywhere, but it can be a bit tricky to coordinate. Do you contrast the patterns and colors correctly, or is it just the right mixture? Does the contrast actually work, or is it a little bit over the top? You can make all the rules in your style guide, Fashionista/o.

Polka-dots and stripes, why not? Leather and lace? Absolutely! There are no limits when trying to contrast your outfit. It’s an odd style where you’re trying to play by the rules as well as making your own all at the same time. This can be a bit tricky, but the way to go is always to play by your own rules. You can go all out with the contrasting colors and patterns, or you can keep it simple with just a few contrasting items.

This Fashionisto chooses a simpler way to contrast, but definitely pulls off one #RAD look. With the dark patterned short sleeve shirt he allows his personal style to come through, but with the solid denim shorts it pulls together the slight coral color in the shirt as well. He keeps it casual with a pair of tan Vans to pull his “summer party” look together. The Vans have a small sliver of a colorful, tribal pattern that keeps them fun.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Shorts? Shorts. It’s too hot to be wearing pants.”
