STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Thigh-Highs

Styling an outfit that you’re proud of can sometimes be difficult in the dead of winter. Not only do many people not even get to experience your chic shirt that’s going on under on all your layers, but keeping your feet warm while walking all around campus can be an issue. In past years, the classic knit socks have brought us back to the ’80s in order to keep our circulation in our legs. This previous fall and winter, we had a small upgrade from the knit socks—thigh-high socks.

When first thinking of thigh-highs, I tend to think of the classic schoolgirl uniform with a plaid skirt (circa Clueless). Hopefully I’m not alone in thinking that this particular trendy piece can be a little intimidating at first. However, after seeing the different looks that have come out mirroring this trend, I can see that there are so many variations that the thigh-high socks can complement. This Fashionista shows one of the more casual looks that can come about with thigh-highs.

On a frigidly cold day outside, she decides to pair her black thigh-high socks with black riding boots. My favorite part of this Fashionista’s look was the detail in her tights. You’ll usually see thigh-highs just by themselves, but her patterned tights add a special feminine effect, especially with her mustard yellow skirt, which gives it a vintage feel. These socks are perfect for a layered winter look to keep you stylish enough to endure the snow. If you want a more decorated appearance, just trade the riding boots for your favorite pair of booties!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Fashion and clothing are made to be creative so I always try to channel my inner designer and Fashionista and have that reflect on what I wear on a daily basis.”
