STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Return of the Midi

When I think of midi skirts, I think of my favorite fictional fashion icon, Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City, strutting her way to her date with Mr. Big. Midi skirts are the return of the past; remember those ’60s, ’70s and ’80s dresses and skirts our chic mothers and grandmothers used to wear? Yeah, this summer the world of sartorialists are taking over the midi look and bringing it back in style the 2015 way. There’s something about the longer hem, the feminine cut and swingy fabric that makes us look like tall retro dolls. I’m a short person so the midi look works in my favor, elongates my figure and gives me height. This trend is so modern and so sophisticated that I am in love.

That is why this Fashionista caught my eye. She looked like such a retro ’80s fashion doll; I couldn’t help but compliment her outfit! She is wearing a striped, cropped tank top with her thrifted vintage A-line midi skirt—an explosion of orange resting on her lower body. I love that her skirt is actually from the past because it adds an elegant pizzazz to her look. The trick to pulling off this stylish skirt is to keep the top as tiny and fitted as possible so that your waist is fully emphasized. That’s exactly what this Fashionista did and wore her ASOS white gladiator shoes and sunglasses to complete her look. She’s a retro-chic superstar!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK?: “It’s always fun to add a funky pop of color to your outfit with some cool shoes and sunglasses. I like midi skirts because they are super comfortable, easy and trendy while they add an edge of sophistication.”
