STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Subtle Colors

Most outfits come together because they match. A black shirt, jeans and black shoes. A white scarf with a white belt. They all match somehow, and they are all easily visible. It is also a general rule to mix similar colors together: warm colors with other warm colors and cold colors with other cold colors. However, that is not the only way to make your outfit comprehensible. Not every piece in your getup has to stop traffic. There are small, subtle tweaks you can make to your attire to make it chic and original.

One of the best ways to add a little fun to your outfit, and a theme in my fashion book of fashion tricks, is to add accessories that complement your outfit. Accessories are advantageous because they can be used in a variety of ways including to complement a piece of your outfit or, in contrast, to bring out another part of your outfit that does not quite pop out as much as the rest of it. This Fashionista did the latter with her jewelry.

This Fashionista wears a maroon oversized shirt with black leggings and black UGGs. A big part of her outfit is the scarf. It is also black to fit her bottom half, but it has blue flowers in it. That is interesting because that alone is throwing the outfit off. This Fashionista adds blue jewelry to match the scarf to the rest of the outfit. Her blue bracelet, blue ring and blue earrings tie it all together. Her black, maroon and blue outfit is organized, stylish perfect for a winter’s day!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If you want to spice up your look, experiment with mixing warm and cold colors like turquoise and maroon. That way, they bounce of off each other and make your outfit more eye-catching”
