STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Smooth Transition

Congratulations East Coasters! You’ve officially almost made it through winter. You’ve suffered chilly walks to class and frigid nights out, and for this, I commend you. But don’t be fooled, before you hang up your winter coats for good, you might want to take another look at the weather forecast, because a few cold days will return for their last vengeance. Which brings me to this month’s Fashionista! This Fashionista is finishing out winter in a strong way and we must use her as inspiration to not let the laziness of these last winter days defeat our outfits.

When I first saw this Fashionista, I was immediately drawn to her combat boots. Her maroon lace-up combat boots are the perfect pop of color for this mainly neutral colored outfit. Combat boots like this are the perfect shoe for when you’re not quite sure if it’s still winter or if it’s spring yet. Unlike a tall, heavy boot, combat boots are usually short and won’t weigh you down. Also, all combat boots look great with T-shirts, sweaters, denim, and even a dress, so it’s so perfectly acceptable to wear them in both the winter and the spring, therefore, eliminating any worry of dragging out winter or trying to force spring.

Aside from the boots, this Fashionista shows us how to perfectly layer for the transition from winter to spring. As she is wearing here, this Fashionista shows how a light, long knit sweater, which is perfect for a brisk day, can be layered to create an easy, super cute look. Notice how she pairs this with a leather jacket, just in case the freezing air decides to make a surprise return. These layers make her outfit look effortless and yet she is armed and ready for any type of wintry-springy mix of temperature.

One more thing completely unique to this Fashionista’s outfit is her admirable way of making an edgy look, softer. Her black ripped skinny jeans and leather jacket give her an edgy vibe. However, her feminine beauty look and knit sweater allow this outfit to soften and become not so rigid in any sort of category. Much like this Fashionista’s outfit, we are still bearing the edginess of winter; however, we are starting to let our pretty spring accents peek through, and therefore become not so rigid in any season. This Fashionista looks perfect in her transitional outfit and we will definitely be taking some tips from her.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “For the warmer seasons I would switch out my sweater for a light top that adds a pop of color and wear a pair of scrappy heels in place of the boots.”
