STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Plaid, Pink And Pumped Up Kicks

One of the longer lasting trends that have been prevalent in street style has been accessorizing almost any look with a pair of sneakers. Chanel and Dior proved how strong this trend is by sending their own chic sneakers down the runways. Chanel’s tweed sneakers from fall 2014 shocked everyone. Who would’ve thought running shoes could look so cool?

Here at Indiana University, students don’t experience the “freshman 15” because of lengthy walks around campus. Our constant exercise does cause some negative side effects: aching feet and calves. Although boots are most recommended for the harsh winter days, students have gravitated towards buying sneakers for everyday use. Some go for a casual look by wearing their sneakers with leggings and a sweater while some, like this Fashionista, will push the boundaries and wear dresses or skirts.

This Fashionista’s thick pastel pink coat contrasts perfectly with her dark green plaid dress. She kept warm with a pair of thick leggings tucked into her Nike sneakers. This Fashionista doesn’t just take on sneakers but she also coordinates the beloved plaid trend and the statement coat trend into her winter look. What’s so great about mixing trends is that it can start a new trend. The plaid just barely peeks out of the statement coat but the outfit would look great without the coat as well. Because this outfit is more on the complicated side this Fashionista chose a pair of simple grey sneakers instead of adding another pattern or color.

Don’t think that just because everyone is focusing on wearing athletic style sneakers means you can’t make this trend your own by wearing a pair of Vans or Converse. Personally, I’m in love with Vans new leather sneaker. On top of them being comfortable, I think people love accessorizing with sneakers is because you can get funky and creative with the designs you chose. You can make a basic outfit look fun just by stepping into a leopard sneaker. Or you could follow this Fashionista and wear a simple sneaker with a eye-catching outfit.
