STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Picturesque Patterns

A talent I admire from a distance and respect from afar is the ability to mix patterns and, more specifically, to mix them well. You always hear the cliché saying that plaid and stripes don’t mix, but yet there’s always the one person who leaps out into the fashion world and masters the clashing patterns look. This Fashionista takes pattern mixing to a whole new level by combining not just two, but three patterns.

I caught this Fashionista leaving my 8:30 a.m. class and was impressed by how stylish she looked for how early it was in the morning. The key to her outfit is sticking to a color pallet and focusing on the different patterns themselves. The blue pinstriped button-down with the navy, blue and white paisley sweater is picture perfect. By sticking to the lighter aspects of the two patterns, the light-washed jeans create cohesion. The boyfriend jeans also give the outfit more of a comfy look, making it the perfect fashion statement for an 8:30 a.m. class.

Her worn army boots and camo jacket also create cohesion. Although they add contrast to the rest of the outfit, they work to catch a viewer’s eye and create interest throughout this Fashionista’s outfit. The camo jacket is quite the statement and it creates a more edgy feel to the overall style. However, this look can work without the jacket. When the sun comes out, she can simply take it off and still have a chic look.

Overall, this Fashionista has mastered the patterned look. She isn’t afraid to pair bold patterns to create an overall stunning look. By using similar color pallets and layers, her outfit is complete.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to try something new! If you’re hesitant to try a full-fledged patterned look then try patterned accessories. A headband, scarf or bag could work as perfect accents to help complete and create contrast throughout a look.”
