STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Over The Top

In the dead of winter it can be hard to find enough warm layers to wear as bottoms, at least ones that are not jeans or leggings. Also with it being so cold, it makes it infinitely harder to wear our favorite dresses year-round without bundling up and looking homeless. Finding the right combinations of fabrics and layers is truly a styling art form. Well ladies, it’s time to learn how to layer up and work it.

This Fashionista originally caught my eye because I fell in love with her extra tall over the knee boots. But upon closer inspection, I found that she had created a fashion hybrid of sorts. We can all agree that it is difficult to find the perfect pair of shoes or boots that also still fits in our price range. But, by simply pairing her regular knee-high boots with a pair of thigh high socks, she created a whole new look. That’s what I called fashion engineering. This is definitely a style trick that I’ll be stealing before spring comes (if it ever does).

To add an extra layer and cover up those exposed thighs, slip on a pair of sheer tights. This will cover you but isn’t too much fabric which can cause a frumpy and concealed look. The sheer exposed leg in winter is a daring, unexpected detail.

Keeping the dress, socks and boots a traditional black, this Fashionista added her personal style by incorporating a blush-colored cardigan that really complemented her blonde hair. The use of a single glitzy statement ring pulls the whole outfit together.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I’m an accessories person. I love rings, scarves, hats and these knee socks! I like layering a lot. I’m also obsessed with patterned tights and leggings.”
