STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: New Look, Same Old Accessories

Mixing vintage trends with new ones can get tricky, but not for this Fashionista. Vintage accessories paired with modern essentials can make an outfit look sublime.

This Fashionista is poised and powerful. Her spring outerwear of choice is the tough, yet mod leather jacket. A leather jacket radiates coolness, and any Fashionista/o can look street style ready without a doubt. Plus, you can totally jam out to “Leather Jacket” by Arkells while wearing one.

The pink suede heels are the pop of color you need in a spring outfit. The pastel hue is not too garish, but it brings this Fashionista’s whole ensemble into one cohesive look. In addition, her mirrored aviator sunglasses is another supreme touch of color, and it complements her leather jacket. In popular culture, the leather jacket is iconic, especially in music. This is evident from the Ramones throughout the ‘70s, which brought the jacket into the punk subculture to Haim sporting their Acne leather today.

I spotted this Fashionista on campus before she went to a nearby mall. To keep her outfit casual, she wore her distressed boyfriend jeans and carried her handy black purse.

Instead of going to an expensive vintage store, this Fashionista opted to go somewhere familiar. Her grandmother’s pearl necklace is classic and authentic. Although the pearls may clash with the contemporary leather and denim, its divergence is what makes this ensemble stylish and on-trend. To complete her look, she pairs these precious pearls with gold rings.

Mix vintage-inspired accessories with popular trends. Remember to keep your look casual and effortlessly cool by wearing a pair of jeans, a leather jacket and carrying your usual bag. Finish off the outfit with suede heels or a more comfortable option, some Vans.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to soften edgier pieces, like leather, by pairing them with vintage jewelry. My Grandma’s pearls can class up any look!”
