STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Monochromatic Madness

In the chillier months, cute outfits can be hard to come by. It’s so much easier to just throw on an old sweatshirt and some sneakers and, if you’re like me, the often drab colors of winter fashion can be less than motivating. I’m the kind of person who loves all things color, so it’s hard for me to find looks that I love in the winter months. However, I took a cue from this week’s featured Fashionista and you can too. She used a monochromatic look with just a slight pop of color to bring winter fashion from drab to fab.

This Fashionista started with everyone’s go-to basic: dark jeans. She stuck with this darker color palette, adding in a flowy bohemian-stye top and some great accessories. Her muted palette of colors makes her bright red lipstick and detailed necklace really stand out. She finished off the look with coordinating boots, an oversized tote bag and a great classic watch. She won’t be late to class, plus she’ll look great!

It seems like this Fashionista has mastered the technique of using statement pieces to really complete and utilize her monochromatic look to its fullest extent. Her jeans and top combination looks clean and put together, but she also knows that red lipstick flatters any skin tone and that big necklaces are all the rage right now.

Clearly, darker winter tones don’t have to drag your style down. Black is always a classic color; it’s slimming and never goes out of style. Take a cue from this Fashionista: there is always something you can do to make an outfit pop. From colored lipstick against a monochromatic look, to a fantastic statement necklace, similar to this fairly inexpensive one from Forever 21, accessorizing can add the extra flair an outfit needs.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Trends come and go but black is always in fashion. You can make absolutely any black ensemble pop with the right accessories and fun lipstick. Dress it up or dress it down, but the key is to always bring your own personal style to it.”
