STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mix Don’t Match

Growing up, I was always told to perfectly match my outfits. Never wear navy with black, brown with black, don’t mix materials, don’t mix silver with gold and definitely never mix patterns. As time has gone by trends and styles have definitely evolved and the rules have certainly changed—in fact, it is now encouraged to break all of those boring rules you learned growing up.

When thinking of the old rules, I think of a grandma wearing an outfit that matches perfectly head to toe. She is either wearing all-silver or all-gold jewelry and her belt, shoes and purse (even the word purse seems old fashioned!) are all the same color. Boring!

That is why this weeks’ Fashionista’s outfit is perfect. She pairs a mostly navy ensemble with black and gold flat sandals and it looks amazing! This Fashionista wore her outfit to her summer internship. She wore a printed long-sleeved blouse with navy chiffon pants, navy cross-body bag and classic black and gold flats. This look is classic, professional and trendy all at the same time. The contrast of the  gold and black sandals with her navy outfit is intriguing and draws attention to her shoes. Her outfit also dresses up her shoes, making them appropriate to wear to the office. This is a great example of how to nail the mismatching trend.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Always do the opposite of what you think is acceptable. Don’t be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone when choosing what to wear!”
