STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mix and Match

For the longest time, mixing multiple patterns in a single outfit or apparel item was absolutely unheard of. I remember when I was finally old enough to pick out my outfits and my mother would send me back upstairs to change if it didn’t “match” correctly. Little did she know, twelve years later Gucci’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection would emerge with gorgeous pattern combinations that would completely revolutionize the idea of “correct matching”.

However, my mom knew a little bit of what she was talking about. Mixing and matching isn’t as easy as different colored socks. It can be tricky and has the potential to make you look like you were late for class, if not styled correctly. So chances are, this trend is tried by the more daring of the Fashionistas out there who aren’t afraid to take some risks.

This Fashionista rocked a mini dress perfect for the summer heat and it’s mix and match pattern is adorable. This outfit is perfect for a lunch date, casual event or even summer classes! The dress has a fun, polka dot pattern on the top, matched with a funky floral pattern on the bottom that ties together flawlessly without looking overwhelming. She styled it with a trendy pair of Free People sunglasses, a dainty coin necklace, turquoise cuff and lace up tassel sandals! The sandals definitely dresses the outfit down, making it more trendy. However, this dress could absolutely be dressed up with a pair of chunky heels,  making the outfit more fancy. You can find this exact dress and adorable shoes (with other color options) at Forever 21 for an amazing price!
