The 1980s knew a type of exclusivity like never before. With just one piece of clothing, a person could be deemed “cool”. With just one piece of clothing, a person could stand out. Celebrities, politicians and the Average Joe subjected themselves to the power of the brand. Flashing this tag meant you knew fashion and fashion knew you. The culprit of this obsession? A Members Only jacket. There wasn’t really an exclusive club in which secret members received jackets in exchange for their presence but owning the outerwear definitely put you in a group of your own. The stardom of Members Only lasted many years until its demise in the early ‘90s. It wasn’t until recently that the brand witnessed its revival. Members Only has updated their repertoire and revitalized the brand. Gone are the days of strictly selling bomber jackets. The company has released a women’s line featuring vegan leather jackets and has even began issuing children’s clothing. Pushing the brand to well known retailers, like Urban Outfitters, has breathed life into Members Only and given the brand a new face in 2015.
This FSU student is bringing the trend to Tallahassee. On this rainy day, he paired his Members Only jacket with a chambray shirt. Peep the granddad collar. The trend is making waves in the fashion industry and was featured on runways during fashion week. Patterned socks are also having a moment. Men and women are turning to funky socks for a bit of personality in their outfits. The trend is a brilliant way to add subtle detail to a look. This student cleverly rolled up a single pant leg to showcase his quirky socks. Notice how the colors of the stripes play to the tones in his shirt.
Sidenote: I am obsessed with sneakers. I will pair my Converse high-tops with nearly anything. Jeans? Yes. Skirt? Yes. Dress? Yes. Needless to say, I rather liked his choice of shoe. Converse sneakers are casual and comfortable. The perfect shoe for trekking around campus.
