STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lady In Red

From Christmastime to Valentine’s Day, red is the color of the season. It’s festive, versatile, and complements all skin tones and body shapes. As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, we may find ourselves contemplating the ideal outfit for dinner dates and annual festivities. We may wonder how we’d make a heart printed tee fashionable, or how we’d stay on-trend while dressing appropriately for school or for the office. Do not fear Fashionistas, because there is one easy solution. Simply wear red to resonate with the holiday cheer!

Red can easily be styled with neutral tones to give your ensemble a pop of color. This tip is a trend I’ve been spotting on campus, specifically in New York City at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I photographed this Fashionista who pairs burgundy pants with a vibrant red cross-body to create a fun and cheery Valentine’s Day look. To contrast her red tones, she wears a black sweater with gold accents to match her biker boots, and Marc Jacobs watch. Other accessories that top off her look include a simple black infinity scarf and small rings. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, this outfit has the desired pop of red that can also be worn into the spring seasons. The gold trimmings complement the rest of her outfit, pulling it together as one unique and joyous look for all Valentine’s Day occasions.

As my Fashionista says, “Wearing red, black and gold for Valentine’s Day is not only festive, but is fashionable and polished. I like to wear fun pieces, but also like to keep it professional for going and class and work. This outfit is the perfect mix of showcasing my fun and stylish personality, while also keeping it classy and appropriate for professional atmospheres.”
