STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: High-Waist Pleated Pants

January in New York City means rainy winter days and the need for lots of layering. This Fashionista proves that it is in fact possible to show off your style, even in unfavorable weather.

What first caught my attention on this Fashionista was her mustard parka and how well it paired with the neutral colors that she wore. Parkas are a great option for cold rainy weather because not only do they keep you warm, but the material and hood will help keep you dry. Underneath the parka, she stuck to an outfit of neutral colors, but wore midnight blue Michael Antonio ankle boots. Ankle boots continue to currently dominate other shoe styles because of their versatility. She finished off the look with a black scarf and gray beanie, both practical accessories that were purchased at American Apparel.

Now let’s talk about the Fashionista’s high-waist pleated pants. Though her parka is what first grabbed my interest as I saw her passing by, I’d have to say that her pants are my favorite part of this outfit. Forget about pleated pants as the khaki chinos that dad wears! They have so much more potential than just that. It seems that people either love or hate the pleated style, but here’s why you should get yourself a pair. Unlike jeans or pants that feature a flat front, this style provides extra room around your legs, giving you a better fit with added comfort. The neutral tan color of this Fashionista’s pants make them easy to pair with practically everything. The high-waist feature ensures that the pants style will be flattering on all who choose to sport them. You really can’t go wrong with a pair of high-waist pleated pants, and I encourage everyone to try on a pair. Fashion is about experimentation, after all!
