STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Flowers Are Not Just For Giving

I’ve always thought it’s the sweetest thing to see a man walking out of the grocery store or sitting on the subway holding a bouquet of flowers to take home. Previously, flowers have been sort of a girl thing. Not only do women receive flowers for every occasion in the book but they also wear flowers on every clothing item from socks to tops. Guys, listen up — floral prints are not just for females anymore. Floral prints mixed with other patterns, textures and accessories can actually be very cool and edgy looking. Even the manliest men can hold on to their tough guy look while wearing this sort of print. Real men wear floral. Look to today’s Fashionisto for inspiration on styling your own flowery ensemble.

Floral is appropriate during any time of the year. Wear floral in the summer to match your surroundings or wear floral during the winter to help you daydream of brighter days. Today’s Fashionisto donned a floral hoodie. He had the best of both worlds — warm fleece to keep him toasty on the chilly day and a floral print to remind him of the upcoming warm season. The sleeves of his hoodie contrasted the colors on the body of the sweatshirt. The red sleeves added a bit of roughness to the floral print that covered the rest of the top half of his body. The floral print itself was a combination of dark and light gray which also lessened the femininity of the look. On bottom he wore a pair of dark wash jeans and Sperry Top-Siders. His look was very laid back and comfortable looking. Personally, I think that you can tell a lot about a man by what he wears. When a guy isn’t afraid to wear things that may be deemed as girly, that’s really cool and shows that he is definitely confident in his shoes.

So Fashionistos, whether you choose to sport a floral print on a T-shirt pocket, Hawaiian shirt or sweatshirt, you need not fear that you’ll look like a girl. Let go of the imaginary gender fashion rules in your head and go for it! To add a little more of a manly touch to your outfit, pair your favorite belt, watch or casual sneakers with your floral print. Of course, if you’re going on a date you can feel free to both wear and bring flowers.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to wear clothes that look good and feel good. If something looks great but is uncomfortable to wear all day long, it’s not for me.”
