STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Feeling Weightless in Watercolor

June 16th, 2015 at 2:00am

One of my personal favorite trends for this summer is watercolor. The soft pinks, blues and purples look so RAD in dresses and rompers of all shapes and styles. I spotted this Fashionista rocking the trend on her way from class, and I just had to ask her about her #OOTD.

She explained to me that she had several pieces of clothing that showed the use of watercolor, some with white as a base color, and some with black as a base color. She prefers the white-based ones for breezy daytime walks on the beach, and the black-based ones for crazy nights on the town.

The great thing about watercolor dresses is that they can be dressed up or dressed down. This Fashionista chose to wear simple earrings, rings and a necklace to ensure that the main focus was on the front of her stunning dress, while she added an adorable pearl head chain in her hair to add some flair to the back. However, with a big statement necklace and some high heels, this look could quickly turn into something you could wear to a more formal wedding.

While this Fashionista has beautiful sun-kissed skin, the beauty of watercolor is that it looks great with any skin tone or hair color! You can also transfer these looks from day to night with a simple change from sandals to wedges. Also, because there are so many variations, any personal style could twist this trend to fit into their closet. If you prefer cool tones, the light pinks, blues and purples are perfect for you. However, if you prefer warmer tones, the red-hot yellows, oranges and reds are sure to make you heat up any room!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Less is definitely more. A little bit goes a long way, especially with a dress like this one, so I just let it do the talking. You don’t need to overwhelm the look with lots of jewelry. Keep it simple with some nice jewelry and plain sandals for a look that leaves you feeling weightless in watercolor.”
