STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Effortlessly Chic

Of all the covetable skills that one can possess when styling outfits every morning, I personally consider the art of being able to look “effortlessly chic” as one of my top picks. This can be witnessed practically everywhere in the fashion world, whether it be Kate Moss, Nicole Richie or Abbey Lee Kershaw. These women consistently look as if they just quickly threw a few simple pieces together and somehow still manage to look insanely well dressed. Just how exactly do they pull it off? Seeing as I am a college student constantly pressed for time in the morning, you know that I would definitely appreciate having this skill.

Now, this was ultimately the vibe that I got when I noticed this Fashionista’s outfit. Notice that it’s composed of only a few basic, staple garments, but it’s still totally rocking that effortlessly chic vibe that I was just raving about. This ensemble is equal parts cool and casual and is a great example of how combining the right basics together can create an overall look that is both effortless and stylish.

Thanks to this Fashionista’s ensemble (and, you know, my persistent Tumblr lurking of model-off-duty looks), I’ve learned a few pointers when it comes to rocking such an effortlessly chic look. Easy pieces such as a loose black top and a pair of skinny distressed jeans may be simple on their own, but they come together flawlessly to create a great street style look. A tan cross-body bag adds a chic pop of a neutral color to the ensemble, and a few gold accessories here and there give the outfit just the right amount of glam.

Okay, so maybe it does take a bit of actual effort to get this look completely down. I can assure you, however, that onlookers won’t be able to tell the difference, and instead, you’ll be pulling a Kate Moss by looking as if you just threw on a perfect outfit in five minutes. So effortless? In reality, not 100 percent true. But chic? You bet.
