STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Denim in Demand

July 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

I have never been able to incorporate denim into my outfits. I am what you would call the opposite of “edgy.” This Fashionista makes denim feel extremely approachable in this super, cute outfit!

This Fashionista starts with a straight and simple silhouette for her denim jacket. A great place to start is with Levi Brand Jeans and their Authentic Trucker Jacket, which is available in multiple shades. This particular wash that this Fashionista is wearing works great with her simple black leggings and her patterned black top. By wearing a black top with little flowers, the Fashionista ensures that her edgy outfit still has a feminine touch. The light wash also goes perfectly with a darker colored top under it.

This Fashionista has an amazing Casio watch that I just cannot get over. It has a traditional classic look to it, but has one tiny, perfect heart on one of the hands that reminds me a little bit of Alice in Wonderland. The dark leather can be perceived as a bit masculine, but this Fashionista once again adds a feminine touch with the hearts on the hand. Her other arm, not to be outdone sports the symbolic Lokai braceletThe bracelet represents the circle of life. The black bead is made from mud from the lowest point on earth (The Dead Sea) and the white bead is water from the highest point on earth (Mt. Everest). The connecting beads between the highest and lowest points represent the circle of life. This bracelet works perfectly with the rest of the outfit. Not only do the colors work with the rest of the color palette, it is always important to add your own personal touches to your outfits!

Something that is becoming just as big of a trend as the return of the denim jacket, is wearing sneakers as a fashion statement, instead of at the gym. Going with a white sneaker breaks up all of the dark colors worn on the body. The white sneaker is also less of a pop of white, since the shade of the denim jacket matches perfectly with a white sneaker. Since the jacket is lighter, and has a few spots of fade that look similar to white, the sneakers fit right in!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I am personally a strong believer in no denim on denim. It really depends on how you play with patterns and colors if you really want to wear denim on denim. My advice for styling denim jackets is either to make it a statement piece or into a contrast piece. Make it a statement piece by keeping your top and bottom neutral or muted. Make it a contrast piece by wearing a printed top and a black bottom to really highlight your top. Denim jackets are such a closet staple for me because they are stylish, without compromising comfort and it can dress up or down any outfit.”
