STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Daring Denim on Denim

Fashion is great in many ways, and perhaps one of the most important is that it can be expressed through so many different styles. People have their own unique sense of style that expresses who they are, and that style tends to change over the course of time. I have to admit that my style now is totally different and much better than my style two years ago. We owe a lot of the evolution of our personal style to growing up, a change of pace, and the people we surround ourselves with, but we also owe a lot to trends. We read magazines, watch television and see what our friends are wearing, what is the newest fashion fad, and pick it up. While some people tend to stick with classic fashion, others love trying out the newest trend. Some trends- like wide-legged gaucho pants and wool ponchos (especially worn together) are better left in the past. Others can be adapted and made timeless, always changing but always in style.

Trends can be fully immersed or subtly incorporated into a Fashionistas wardrobe, and there are a few trends that are either loved or hated. The best example of that kind of trend is denim on denim. People either love it and rock it, or hate it and avoid it at all costs, but I have yet to find somebody who is into fashion and neutral on the subject. I would have to say that traditional denim on denim is a major fashion faux pas, but recently I’ve seen a few twists on the trend. Now, when paired perfectly and styled correctly, I can honestly say that I love the trend.

This Fashionista shows us just why this trend can be so fashion forward, by rocking denim on denim with a twist. By pairing black skinny jeans with a classic and cool chambray, the trend is in full force but because one is colored denim, the two pieces don’t clash or blend together. Adding a bit of an edge with a pair of short combat boots, but softens the edge by making them a neutral color, like tan or beige. Keeping accessories simple and the attention focused on the outfit, she wore a black watch and a thin gold chain. She looks put together and minimalistic, but stylish and totally cool.
