STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Cute in Cardigans

January 21st, 2015 at 2:00am

With the semester just starting up again, its great to be back on campus with the hustle and bustle of daily life, seeing friends and just keeping ourselves busy. Today, we had an unusually sunny day for January, but the temperatures were still pretty chilly. That didn’t stop this particular Fashionista from donning her adorable outfit, though.

When trying to stay stylish and warm in low temperatures, the most important thing you can keep in mind while picking out your outfits is to dress in layers. If done right, layering will not only keep you warm and protect you from the elements, but it will also add interest to your outfit by incorporating different patterns and fabric textures. Cardigan sweaters are perfect for this. Personally, I believe that a few really great long-line cardigans are some of the most versatile pieces are girl can own. Being the ultimate layering piece, a cardigan can be styled in so many different ways, whether that’s with a casual blouse and leggings or played up with a skater dress and booties. The cardigan’s ability to easily fit underneath one’s blazer or coat is yet another reason that it makes for such a fantastic winter staple. In frigid Pennsylvania winters where the temperature can easily drop from twenty to ten degrees in one day, functional outfit pieces like this aren’t just an option, they’re a necessity.

I absolutely love the casual yet chic style of this Fashionista and how she paired her darling cardigan with a pair of skinny jeans and a boyfriend flannel from J.Crew. Flannels are another great top for college students to wear under their cardigans because their insulation keeps one warm while walking outside from class to class. Plus, they’re very easy to just throw-on-and-go for those days you overslept for your 8:00 a.m.

In addition to her flannel, this student also rocked a rugged pair of brown combat boots and some ornate, silver rings and bracelets. Little accessories such as these can often be overlooked in an outfit because they are so small, but it’s the little details that really help to tie it all together.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “To change up this look a little and show off your beautiful, feminine silhouette, wear a skinny belt over your cardigan so it will taper in at the waist.”
