STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Consign or Designer?

April 6th, 2016 at 2:00am

Designer fashions are something to be cherished, coveted and cared for so long as they remain in our grasp. But we all know the day that comes when your Blogilates binge finally pays off and your jeans have gone from boyfriend to straight up baggy; it’s time to bid farewell. Here in the city, whether it’s size or season that’s gone out of style, Fashionistas everywhere are constantly shedding cocoons of outfits past and donating to consignment shops and thrift stores.

This Fashionista knows the value of a good thrift. Here in New York, and especially on the Upper West Side, thrift and consignment shops are gold for what full-price fanatics consider to be “so last season.” Her latest find? A Club Monaco trench in a stunning cobalt, the perfect pop against her vibrant red hair. She pairs this thrifted treasure with a navy Topshop crop which she also thrifted here in the city. This top paired with a crochet mini is perfect for spring, with a cool textural element similar to the Balmain for Yeezy skirt that Kylie wore to the Yeezy SZN 3 show. She keeps the structure of the shirt shining with a simple braid and black glasses from the same consignment shop. Delicate gold and light brown leather accessories add a touch of vintage to an otherwise modern composition and structural silhouette. Her black Chelsea boots are the way to go for an afternoon running errands in the city.

All the pieces this Fashionista thrifted are from a consignment shop in New York City called Beacon’s Closet. Whether you’re in the market for Miu Miu’s or just zany for Zara, thrift stores are a sure way to revamp any wardrobe, just in time for spring.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to be open-minded while thrifting. I like to try on as much as possible within a style that I’m into at that moment. Recently, I’ve been into more classic styles, which thrift stores are perfect for because you can find amazing vintage pieces and revamp them with some modern trends to give them a whole new life.”
