STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Coordination

I don’t know about you, but for me, winter can pretty much be summed up in two words: the worst. It’s all fun and games in December when the snow is light and fluffy, but once you hit January and February it takes a turn for the worse. Recently, NYC has gotten lucky by being spared by the massive storms slamming the Northeast with snow, but it is enough to force everyone into their warmest winter gear.

I spotted this Fashionista dashing to catch a train into the city for a snowy day on the town. Dressed in a sweater dress, tights, ankle boots and a structured coat, she looked beyond ready to take on the big city. Normally when we think of winter wear, we think of blacks and grays, but this Fashionista took her winter style to a whole new level with this look.

Her sweater dress adds a pop of color to the winter day around her with its unusual combination of red and purple. To balance out the colors of the dress, this Fashionista paired her look with dark purple tights, a black scarf, a light brown coat and brown booties. The neutral hues tone down the brights of the dress and tie her whole look together. The colored tights have the potential to make a look seem juvenile, but in the way she did it, that is not the case at all. Colored tights are not normally exactly synonymous with mature, professional looks, but this Fashionista’s use of the jacket and accessories dressed them up so well. Mixing unconventional colors can be tough, but if you do it right, it really pays off.

To accessorize, this Fashionista kept it very simple. Her black cross-body bag had gold chain accents which matched perfectly with her gold jewelry. She wore a dainty black and gold ring and coordinating watch, allowing the purple of her nail polish to stand out. Keeping it simple accessory-wise made this look very chic and perfect for a day out in the city.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “During the winter, it’s not all about black and gray; it’s about color! Experiment! Wear things that typically wouldn’t be winter go-to’s. Look, I wore red and purple, okay? Mix it up!”
