STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Clean Slate

It is that time of year when we all make resolutions for the new year. We promise to lose weight, eat better or step up our fashion game in hopes that this year will be better than the last. But in the dead of winter, it can be hard to make those changes. It may be too cold to want to go to the gym or eat anything but pizza and hot chocolate, and we find ourselves getting sick of our baggy sweaters, plaid scarves and boots. So how do you start the new year with a clean slate?

I believe that the best way to start fresh this year is with a whole new color scheme. By the time February rolls around, everyone is so tired of wearing black, maroon and every other dark color that it almost becomes depressing. So try to think of different hues to wear. Pastels and whites have become extremely popular in the winter time because it gives a fresh and feminine look when you see a sea (no pun intended) of edgy and dark looks. If you feel bold enough take that one step further and pick a color to carry through the entire. Yup, I did just tell you to wear to match colors. It’s instantly fresh, innovative and all you have to do is go into your closet.

I saw this Fashionista rocking an all-white outfit to class and immediately obsessed over the look. She looks fresh, trendy and cool, which is what we all make a resolution to do. Not only is she super comfortable in the gray joggers (super trendy right now) and white Vans, but she is warm in the white sweater and ivory blanket scarf.  The key to pulling off this outfit is having a variety of hues and texture. The gray sweatpants break up the pure white in the shoes and sweater, and the blanket scarf adds a layer of dimension so that you don’t look plain.

This is the time of year when people start to feel that yearn for something new. It is a new year and the perfect opportunity to let go of the past and look forward to new trends or inspiration. Although that can be tricky, this is the perfect solution to that problem because all you need to do is go into your closet. You can go find different pieces of the same color spectra to wear together, and now all of a sudden you have a fresh approach to your closet. It’s a new year, a clean slate, so try to get away from all the black and red, and freshen up your look with pastels and whites.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “First, get away from all of the black, maroon and hunter green and try a lighter color like white or pastels. Secondly, pick a color and wear that color from head to toe, but don’t forget to mix up the textures and hues.”
