STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Chunky Knits

Snow super storm Juno, came down on the east coast—especially here in Kingston, RI—with a vengeance. I believe here in New England we received up to three inches of snow. When traveling through the cold no one wants to be wearing their best jeans or shoes, but everyone always wants to look their best! In my opinion, it is essential to achieve a look where functionality, comfort and style all play an important role in an outfit choice

Walk on to any college campus, whether it’s in sunny Florida or a snowy Rhode Island and you will see there is no denying chunky sweaters are in. It’s lucky for us because these knits are not only comfortable, but they keep us warm while achieving a cool relaxed look. I love the versatility of these sweaters. Knit sweaters like the one this Fashionista is rocking can be seen on a prepster or a hipster, which makes it an important basic piece in any wardrobe.

This Fashionista first caught my eye because I couldn’t help but admire her colorful beanie from Free People, similar to this one. I love the way she paired a chunky knit sweater with a chunky knit beanie. It is important to maintain functionality and style during this season, especially with all the snow this past week, and this Fashionista gets an A+ in both those departments. I especially admired the simplicity of her outfit. With such a bulky sweater a plain T-shirt and leggings are the perfect additions to this ensemble. Although this Fashionista presents a more boho relaxed style look, a more preppy Fashionista could easily wear the same sweater with a collared shirt and cords and look just as fabulous. Similar to this look shown by Madewell. I think that sweaters like this one from Urban Outfitters will be a trend for a while due to their versatility and comfort so stock up my Fashionista/os!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “As you can see from my outfit, definitely knits! Whether it’s a knit scarf, beanie or top, it’s perfect for staying warm and being comfortable in the winter, especially this past week.”
