STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Business Casual

In graduate business school, I often feel a bit like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde when I show up to class wearing (probably too much) color and being over accessorized. At first I felt a bit insecure that I would not be taken seriously. I considered joining my fellow classmates around me in their cliche business attire. Eventually, I realized that by throwing a bit of yellow or pink in with my suit would not make me any less dedicated to being a professional! Of course, it is important to be appropriate and conservative, but there is plenty of room for some life thrown in the mix. When looking for a job, it is especially important to dress the way your potential firm would want you to represent yourself.

This pretty, dimpled Fashionista became my life boat in a sea of stuffy business attire. She is dressed in a casual blazer paired with dark wash skinny jeans. A pair of jeans like these really come in handy for business casual, especially for those days when a pant suit is just too much. Black flats and some tortoise shell glasses create an incredibly polished, dressed-down ensemble. Another simple accessory like a purse can also be a nice touch. It is clean and simple, and almost impossible to mess up! Professional does not mean boring.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Modesty is very revealing of both natural beauty and brains. In the business world, you want that to stand out to people above all else.”
