STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bells Are For Life

Growing up, I had one piece of clothing that I was obsessed with and wore every chance I got. Even now I look back and admire this one particular item due to the way it perfectly fit my awkward pre-teen figure, gave me a much needed sense of self confidence whenever I wore them and the fact that the more worn they got, the better they ended up looking. They were a pair of Levi Brand flared jeans handed down to me from a cousin who had outgrown them. I always have preferred the flare or bell bottom look, and I held onto this fit in jeans and pants for as long as I could before the skinny-fit took over. Now the look has bounced back gradually since the start of the new year; no longer is it uncommon for one to see these wonderfully flared out pants on the streets alongside skinny jean wearers—and I’m loving it!

I could go on for days explaining every reason why bell bottoms should be everyone’s number one favorite style of pant, but for the sake of conciseness, I’ll stick to the utmost primary reason: these pants work on every single body type. They give girls such as myself the curves we never received, and beautifully contour those who were naturally blessed with such a privilege. Bell bottoms allow all wearers to have the hourglass shape we endlessly wish for while also remaining much more comfortable than the painted on look of a skinny jean we have all grown accustomed to. Not to completely disregard some potential perks of the skinny jean or other popular pant shapes, but none will compare to the flirty fun of flares.

What I loved most about this Fashionista’s pair of bell bottoms was how natural they made the outfit look. Most people shy away from flared pants due to how overpowering some can be. Her pants easily avoided this, even with the eye-catching print, because of their monochromatic color scheme. She also made the smart choice in pairing them with solid, neutral colors keeping the outfit casual—perfect for a laid back lunch date with a friend. The fringed kimono also added to the coolness of the outfit, while her jewelry was mindful and understated. All in all, this Fashionista got the bell bottoms look right!
