STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Back to Basics

August 25th, 2015 at 2:00am

We’re getting to that time of the year when students are finishing their breaks and heading back to school. Depending on where you live, the weather might start to cool off a bit. But that doesn’t mean break out the sweaters. It just means that you wear your favorite jeans without profusely sweating. A great way to dress for this time of year is to stick to basics. That way it’s easier to transition between summer and fall. This Fashionista’s outfit was a perfect transitional outfit. She can wear it heading to class or heading out the door. It’s an extremely versatile ensemble.

There are a few key things about this outfit that make it such a great transitional outfit. First, the color scheme is neutral and small. There are two main colors, brown and blue, in this ensemble. While the colors represented are limited, the shades of each color are varied in this outfit. Another key factor is the simplicity of the overall outfit. This Fashionista made statements with her shoes and bag, while keeping the rest of the ensemble incredibly simple. By doing this, she was able to look incredibly stylish without doing too much.

This Fashionista’s outfit is mainly just a pair of skinny jeans and a short-sleeved sweater. What makes these pieces unique are the colors. The jeans are almost a periwinkle color, while the sweater is a brownish-mustard with black detailing. These are shades you wouldn’t necessarily think would go together, but they pair very well. The fit of these pieces also helped with the overall look.

This Fashionista kept her accessories simple, accessorizing with only a bag, her shoes and a belt. Boy, did those three accessories go far, though! By adding a structured bag in a complementary color, an element of chicness was added to the overall look, which is pretty casual. Adding colorful oxfords added an element of fun. The belt tied the whole thing together. It added a nice middle-ground since it stood out from the rest of the matching pieces. The Fashionista finished off the look with her trademark pink sunglasses.

By toning down an outfit and keeping things simple, you can really make a great impression. It’s great to see that by wearing things that would normally blend in, you can really stand out.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Invest in key pieces. This Coach bag is one of my only designer pieces, but it’s so worth it. Another piece of advice is to go to thrift stores or use websites that offer discounts. It makes it much easier to find designer pieces for so much less.”
