STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: A Pop of Pastel

Why do muted, cold colors always define our winter season? Why don’t we band together and add a pop of color to our winter color palette and say goodbye to those dark browns, muted blues and charcoal gray? Take a chance and add a soft, colorful pastel to your look.

Baby blue and soft pink are recurring colors on the runway and in street style. These delicate colors are coming paired with unique silhouettes leaning towards the boxy, oversized side. Pastels are no longer just for spring and winter, try mixing in pastels with other hot neutrals for a trendy urban look.

Wearing pastels feel young and fresh and my Fashionista this week is a perfect example of that. I ran into her in passing in Manhattan this week and knew I had to snap a quick photo. Her baby blue coat caught my eye at first and I realized her entire ensemble was on point. She had an oversized button-up coat from Forever21 and underneath had a bold graphic sweater with “MEOW” in soft pastels.  She then paired it with a pale pink Kate Spade Saturday purse.  She wore black skinny jeans and perforated white Vans for a perfectly put together look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to look for inspiration in fashion magazines, blogs and on some Instagram accounts I follow. I love trying to recreate a look I’ve seen on the runway and adding my own little flare to it. I strive to be comfortable in whatever I end up wearing for the day because then I will be confident.  Also, I live in New York and there is street style inspiration everywhere I look!”
