Unexpected Graduation Outfits

How is it possibly graduation already?! I’m crazy excited (shoutout to my fellow seniors), so, instead of working on my capstone project, I’ve been hunting for the perfect graduation outfits. Even though it’s the classic go-to, don’t feel limited by “the white graduation dress.” There are other options too: jumpsuits, trousers, patterned dresses, maxi dresses, and fun two-piece sets. You’ve accomplished so much over the last few years, so your graduation outfit should be a celebration of who you are. Here are some looks so good you won’t want to cover them with your cap and gown.

Stand Out On Stage in a Mustard Jumpsuit

If you haven’t jumped on the mustard color trend, this is the perfect stage (literally) to try it out. Go for a jumpsuit with a geometric neckline and a soft fabric. To throw in some contrast, slip on a pair of funky snakeskin-effect boots, and complete the look with some patterned wooden bracelets.

Stay Cool in Colorful Cotton Stripes

Graduation ceremonies are long. So, it’s a good idea to find an outfit with materials that will keep you cool and (nearly) sweat-free. Try a striped cotton jumpsuit (the one below has fun bow-details!) and a pair of suede flats. Stuck outside for your ceremony? Throw on some oval white sunnies for trendy sun protection.

Forgo Color for a Sleek Black Suit

Color isn’t everyone’s thing, and you shouldn’t compromise your style just because it’s graduation. Look cool and sophisticated in a pair of high waisted black trousers, and add a blouse with detailed sleeves for visual interest. Break up the color block with some bright white leather mules.

Skip the White Dress for a Romantic Blouse

The color white is a graduation staple, but that doesn’t mean that you need to wear it in dress-form. A white tied blouse adds a modern feminine flair to this graduation tradition. Pair with classic caramel trousers and a simple black crossbody to complete the outfit.

Mix Things Up With a Two-Piece Set

Two-piece sets are currently all the rage, and your love for them can extend to graduation. Since this is a formal event, look for a set that doesn’t show a ton of skin, but still shows a little—after all, you’re only young once. A floral crop-top-and-pant set is fresh and feminine, and drop earrings add sophistication. Don’t want your feet to get sore? Try a fun pair of white glitter sneakers.

Stay Comfortable in a Pretty Dress Over White Culottes

Want to wear a white dress but also want the comfort of pants? A pair of white trousers will save the day and come in especially handy for windy outdoor ceremonies. Try a wide-legged style and add a colorful floral blouse on top for some visual texture and a pop of fun. Quirky smoking slippers give this look some personality.

Make an Impact in a Ruffly Red Romper

Graduation is an exciting day, and what screams excitement more than fun red ruffles? A sleeveless wrap dress is a versatile option that you can definitely throw on later in the summer. Try a cheerful pair of metallic mules, and finish the look with an intricate choker necklace.
